Three-wheeled Vehicles and Licenses
Class C drivers license is appropriate for what most people would call a "car". And, as a Polaris Slingshot is a three-wheel motorcycle that is less than 6,000 pounds, and not a two-wheel motorcycle, then you can operate it with a Class C license. A class M1 license for two-wheel motorcycle operation is an endorsement on a class A, B, or C license, which is not required for a three-wheel motorcycle including both the Polaris Slingshot and any sidecar equipped motorcycle.
12804.9. (3) Class C includes the following:

(D) A three-axle vehicle weighing 6,000 pounds gross or less.
...
(K) Class C does not include a two-wheel motorcycle or a two-wheel motor-driven cycle.
