Audi was formed by joining Horch, Audiwerke, DKW, and Wanderer to become Auto Union in 1932 to survive the Great Depression. In 1960 Auto Union was acquired by Volkswagen from Daimler-Benz. VW merged Auto Union with NSU in 1969 to create the current Audi.
