He left high school temporarily in April 1917 and served in the regular Army in Co. C, 64th Reg. Inf. After eight months in the Army, he attended Bible School at Toccoa, GA 1919-20, and the following year, entered the Lawrenceville High School where he graduated in 1923; then took a summer course at Mansfield, PA Teachers College. He was a member of the Button Genealogy Committee, was an authority on Button genealogy in general and the descendants of Peter Button (1.8.3.10) in particular. He joined the Consistatory, Ancient Scottish Rites, 32nd degree at Corning, NY and the Knights of the Mystic Shrine at Binghamton, NY. He also joined the American Legion at Lawrenceville, PA in 1922.
