Royal Canadian Mounted Police or Gendarmerie royale du Canada RCMP-GRC.

Current RCMP was formed in 1873 as the North-West Mounted Police to maintain order in the then new North-West Territories. In 1873, Prime Minister Sir John Macdonald defined its purpose as "the preservation of peace and the prevention of crime" in the vast NWT. Unstated publicly was his concern that conflict between the Americans and natives would cause the USA to send their Army into the NWT. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) was formed from the NWMP in 1920.
