Made in East Germany between 1957 and 1991. Over 3 million made largely unchanged throughout all the years. Two stroke, two cylinder engine. The roof, boot lid, bonnet, wings and doors are made of duroplast, a hard plastic made from recycled cotton waste from the Soviet Union and phenol resins from the East German dye industry. Very hard to dispose of or recycle.
