We added carbon fiber heating elements to a kick-ass technical puffy, and the ‘Ectotherm’ was born.

When you’re sitting around the campfire or lounging in your tent, it’s a super warm insulator with 100g body-mapped synthetic PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core Technology. Connected to the bike, it adds a 6-panel carbon-fiber 3.5Amps/42w heating system powered by the bike. That extra warmth takes the edge off long, cold, wet, pavement stretches; keeps you warm on high alpine passes; adds new enjoyment to early spring and late fall trips, and ensures you’re ready for anything a multi-year/multi-season RTW journey can dish out.

The Ectotherm is your solution for staying sane and happy when the weather turns brutal. The name comes from Ectothermic, a scientific term for animals that exchange body heat with external sources. Like a lizard basking on a hot rock.

DESIGN

Unlike conventional heated liners the Ectotherm is a fully functional stand-alone synthetic insulation layer. By combining the functionality of a technical puffy and a heated liner we’ve added even more performance and versatility to a layer that we rarely leave home without. Now you can enjoy the comfort of onboard 12V heat without over burdening your pack space. Pair it with heated grips and hand-shields to create the ultimate minimalist heat system for backcountry and RTW travel.

Built with 100g of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology at the core and 60g in the underarms to reduce bulk under armor, the Ectotherm is well equipped for any cold weather trip. This high-tech insulation combines PrimaLoft Gold, with aerogel technology, to provide up to 52% more warmth than the same weight of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation alone. This enables us to achieve both enhanced warmth and decreased weight. Integrated directly into the fibers, aerogel further enhances the performance of synthetic insulation. Now not only will it perform better than down when wet, it will also perform better when compressed under armor.

To further battle the chill of riding in the cold, we added 6 thin, flexible carbon fiber heat panels in the collar, arms, left and right chest and back. Activate the heat with a hem mounted controller to toggle through 3 levels of 3.5amp/42w heat to maximize comfort. The system is powered by your bike’s 12V battery (wiring harness included) for heat that lasts as long as the ride. When it comes to cold weather riding the Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket is a powerhouse of comfort when pushing the boundaries of riding season.

Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket

Hard to compare Apples to Oranges but here goes. I am a huge fan of Mosko Moto equipment and own alot. I am excited to receive my Ectotherm electric jacket. But to be fair, when they say insulated, it is, with all the positives and negatives. When I go riding, US, Central or South America, I try hard to pack light and small. This is a big jacket, especially in 2X. It does not even come close to Venture Heats size, about half a foot ball in its self contained storage pack. And then that even packs smaller when sandwiching and pressure applied. The Venture Heat jacket keeps you warm and toasty, plugged in.
The Mosko Moto Ectotherm is bulky packing!, but you do not need another “evening” jacket to go into town or wear around camp site in chilly evenings. The Ectotherm covers more bases than whats out there, as long as you have enough room under your ADV riding jacket and in your gear when not wearing as it packs about the size of two inflatable large sleeping pads. You can’t have both worlds I know, but size is why I gave it four stars Vs five. I know, staying warm around the camp is not to be taken lightly, but again four stars it is. Maybe they’ll surprise us with a waterproof shell that’s heated and fits in the smallest of places and keeps you warm and dry! I hope this helps!

Nearly Perfect

I want to give this jacket five stars, but it needs a couple little tweaks to make it just right. I'm kind of echoing a couple other complaints here, but the power cord is a bit long, bulky, and does not stay stowed very well. I was thinking a removable cord would be nice, but that's just something to get lost. Maybe a port on the black plastic power/control module might be an ideal solution, as the power cable that connects to the battery is plenty long and could be stowed on/in the bike with a small velcro strap when not in use. In relation to the power module, the wiring inside the jacket has some sort of clip or zip-tie that is very sharp and pokey. I know this is going to eventually wear a hole through the pocket, and I have to be conscious of this when putting my hands in the pockets to stow items or warm my hands at camp. I'm 6' and approximately 195 lbs. and the size large fit is very good, but the sleeves are just a bit too short. This makes the thumb holes, which are a very nice touch, mostly unusable. I get it though, because as part of a layering system, I don't want extra long sleeves underneath my outer layer(s). Maybe a thumb strap instead of the hole could be the remedy? I was pleasantly surprised at the warmth of this jacket on its own. I've been wearing this jacket around chilly spring evenings here in the PNW and I don't feel (or look) like I'm wearing motorcycle gear, so this and a t-shirt is very cozy. The heat is incredible, I ride year round and this jacket is going to be a game changer in the winter months. As previously mentioned in another review, a little more heat area on the chest/belly and front of arms would be nice, but I have yet to try it out below 40F. The jacket blocks wind much better than I had anticipated. Overall I love this jacket and just hope it lasts for many years to come.
